Lord & Burnham Conservatory

Description

Located on a historic North Shore Long Island Estate, this 1906 Lord & Burnham Conservatory had been deteriorating for years, and was severely damaged by a falling tree in 2011. Nicholson & Galloway was hired to restore the structure. The scope of work included:

  • most components were disassembled, restored and replaced with new aluminum extrusions and glazing
  • The interior Cypress cornice was stripped, restored and re-painted
  • Original arched windows and the ornate Cypress exterior cornice were beyond salvaging and were removed and replicated in GFRP
  • Brick and stone was cleaned and re-pointed
  • Internal gutters were replaced with lead-coated copper, all glazing was replaced and lighting protection was installed
