Painting Gallery
Description
Designed in 1965 by Philip Johnson for his private 40-acre estate, this subterranean painting gallery houses many priceless 20th Century paintings and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Upon Mr. Johnson’s death in 2005, the Estate was donated to the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Due to leakage around the perimeter of the structure, Nicholson & Galloway was hired to perform the following work:
- Remove 4,800 square foot existing roofing assembly
- Excavate 235 linear feet of foundation wall
- Remove and reinstall 54 one-thousand pound coping stones with crane
- Install new Kemper roof assembly and gravel overburden
- Reinstall soil and sod
