Brooklyn Navy Yard

Forming one of the original ten mansions of the Admiral’s Row at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, this mansion called “Quarters B” once housed Admiral Matthew C. Perry and is the last surviving structure. Originally built around 1872 by the U.S. Navy to house the Navy Yard Commodore, by the early 2000’s the structure had fallen into complete disrepair and was in danger of imminent collapse. As part of a larger commercial development of the site, Nicholson & Galloway was contracted to perform the following restoration work:
- 3,400 square feet of face brick salvaged, flipped and reinstalled
- 680 square feet of new face brick installed
- 1,000 square feet of 3 wythe brick reconstruction
- 4 chimneys reconstructed
- 270 pieces of new cast stone
- 5,480 square feet of new stucco
- 750 square feet of brick grouting
- 1,150 linear feet of wood framing reinforcement
- 5,800 square feet of new plywood floors
