Brooklyn Federal Courthouse & Post Office

Description

This Federal complex consists of two attached buildings, one constructed in 1892 (granite) and the other in 1933 (terracotta). The project included restoration of both buildings. Between 2009 and 2013 Nicholson & Galloway acted as the General Contractor, Restoration Contractor and Roofing Contractor.

On the 1933 Building:

  • 16,000 terracotta units removed and replaced
  • 40,000 square feet of granite and terracotta repointed, patched and cleaned

On the 1892 Building:

  • 160,000 square feet of granite cleaning and repointing
  • 900 granite repairs including dutchmen and extensive dormer rebuilding

On both buildings:

  • All 1200 windows were removed, re-glazed, restored and reinstalled
  • 29,000 square feet of slate roofs removed and replaced
  • All roof and cornice flashings were replaced with Freedom Gray Copper
