Brooklyn Botanic Garden Gate

Description
Designed by architects McKim, Mead & White, this Italian Renaissance Revival arch is located at the south entrance of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. In 2014 Nicholson & Galloway performed the following work:
- 100% of the limestone and 2,000 square feet of brick were cleaned with light duty detergents, then re-pointed using historic mortars
- Voids behind the face brick and red marble medallions were injection grouted
- Two large limestone lintels were severely damaged and required replacement
- Complex shoring was installed to support the arch while the existing lintels were removed
- New cast stone lintels were slid under the arch and grouted in place
- 2 limestone voussoirs in the arch west reset
- Two new painted Mahogany doors replaced the 2 original deteriorated doors flanking the arch
- Three eight foot tall painted metal gates were removed, blasted to reveal the original cast iron and bronze accents, disassembled, and repaired
- The gates were reinstalled with a new steel turnstile
