Sculpture Gallery

Description

Nicholson & Galloway was hired by the National Trust for Historic Preservation to restore the Sculpture Gallery at the Phillip Johnson Glass House Museum. designed and built by Johnson in 1971, the Gallery housed his personal sculpture collection. The primary focus of the restoration was the replacement of the dramatic skylight and lighting system.

  • All existing steel was micro-abrasive blasted and painted with an epoxy paint system
  • The skylight was replaced with a new insulated and tinted skylight
  • The cold cathode lighting system was completely replaced with a new system custom manufactured by original manufacturer
  • Exterior brick walls were stripped and recoated
  • Built-in gutters at skylight perimeter were removed and replaced with new liquid- applied fabric-reinforced gutter liners
  • Interior floors were chemically-cleaned and exterior doors were replaced with new stainless steel doors
  • The main entrance door was completely disassembled, restored and reinstalled
