Description: Complete Exterior Restoration
Types of work: Tile roofing, limestone
cleaning, stone restoration, self adhering roofing
Details:
For New York Life's 150th Anniversary, Nicholson
& Galloway restored their 1927 Gothic-Revival headquarters.
The portions restored included the limestone facade, the
gold tile roof and the copper-clad fleche and lantern at
the pinnacle.
Working
off of stationary-scaffolding, we removed 27,000 deteriorated
terra-cotta roof tiles and replaced them with new 24-carat
gold-clad tiles. New membrane under-layment, stainless steel
fasteners and hurricane clips were integrated into the system
to create a durable roof which could withstand windy New
York winters.
The
massive limestone facades were gently cleaned with a water-soak
process off of swing-stage scaffolding.
Masonry
joints were repointed and spalled limestone was patched
in-situ to match the existing stone. Six foot wide stone
lintels above windows were removed and reinstalled so that
repairs could be made to the concealed structural steel. |
