This brick and terra cotta structure was built
on East 88th Street in 1899 and is a New York City Landmark.
Nicholson & Galloway recently completed a major roof
replacement and masonry repair project.
All
existing roofing slate was removed with all associated flashings.
New copper gutters and flashings were installed followed
by new 14”x 8” Unfading Vermont Red Slate. In
all, over 10,000 square feet of slate was replaced along
with all copper ridges, hips, trough-gutters, leaders and
dormers with louvered vents. Masonry work included dismantling
and rebuilding ten terra cotta pinnacles, rebuilding of
brick piers and dismantling and rebuilding thirty linear-feet
of terra cotta balustrade.
Selected
terra cotta components were carefully removed, molded and
replaced with new pre-cast concrete replacements. All of
the work was performed from stationary scaffolding on a
very restricted site.
As
always, all work was supervised and performed by Nicholson
& Galloway’s own personnel. |
